We review the previous week’s events and consider options at the moment. This village may well serve as a place to long rest, and possibly more involving…
| A Fellowship Phase | A fellowship phase can happen at a safe haven (think the fellowship resting at Rivendell) where we can take a long rest, but also embark on certain undertakings. | Possible undertakings during a short fellowship phase (more details on these to go in the wiki): | - Gather rumours | - Meet a patron | - Ponder storied and figured maps | - Recount a story | - Strengthen fellowship (rating) | - Study magical items | - Write a song | - Or propose a different undertaking | For a short fellowship phase: | - The group chooses one | - The group can propose another and the DM will consider it | In a longer fellowship phase: | - Healing shadow scars is also an undertaking option | - Everyone gets their own undertaking | - A new possible feat could aid in the healing of shadow scars, but that’s TBD. | |||||||

| We enter the inn… |
…other things happen while Ryan steps away…
Storr is asking Elowyn about runes and shows her the sword.
The runes represent sounds, but more than anything else, they represent initials.
Avan, is the server and takes our order. She’s a blonde version of helium B’s.
Bal asks about Elowyn.
She’s a very simple woman. She’s lived in the village all her life. I love being here, it’s a beautiful place.
Great place to live?
I’ve always felt good here. It’s a place where I’ve belonged.
Silas: Never been attacked?
I don’t think anyone would come here. We only have Bardh? out there as something. Primthy has left long ago.
She asks where we come from? Is the red headed one okay? Honey, how are you feeling? I know we’re at high altitude here..
Storr: It’s been a long journey. We lost a friend recently. Hard to answer. I don’t know if everything is alright. It’s been a long time since I have felt I have been in a safe place. Is this place as good as you think it is, if you’re willing to allow us to stay and rest?
We have an inn. Not my call really, but it seems like you’re asking for more than I as a local villager could offer.
Bal: Who is a good person to speak to looking for information?
You could certainly talk to Braeger who owns the inn, and his father on the porch there. He’s th one who’d we go to for advice.
Bal: Do you know as a resident, what are some good places to check out? Any other local establishments?
In terms of? The inn, some shops, some workshops, there’s a dog in the inn who is very athletic and hates trains. There’s the mill by the mill pond, local residents. I just go walking in the fields and forests in the town.
Bal: the shops: what do they offer?
What are you looking for?
Storr: Is there a blacksmith or a weaponsmith we can visit to repair our weapons?
Absolutely
Storr: Herbalist? Medicines?
Gwagh, in a cottage at the edge of town, she would be the person to ask. Uphill toward the mountains.
Bal: Anyone very learned? Intelligence? Barth is the wisest in town, his son is likely to know the comings and goings.
Any inventors in town? Someone that’s interested in …. What is essentially science, the things that Bal has been studying, his findings?
Bardh would hold some interest
Silas: Anyone in tune with history?
Bardh has written most of the history.
Silas: Lore?
Gwagh knows the most about the forest. We keep her at arms length.
Why arm’s length?
She’s interested in strange things. We all care about the names of things, but she has gone deeper into the darker facets of things than we are more comfortable.
How can we ingratiate ourselves to Bardh?
He does have a good sense of humor, though hard to nail down. Most days he looks out from his porch, he’s retired, and watches the world go past. There is a peach orchard down the hill to the right.
She calls over the innkeeper. He tells us it’s called “The Poet’s Rest”, and he has some nice hobbit sized and regular sized rooms for us.
Silas asks about a spot outside where he can camp. He says there’s acreage available behind the inn he’s welcome to use.
How long have you been here?
I’ve been behind the bar for a long time. My father wondered for a long time, this is always something i wanted to do. Always high summer in Sibrwd.
Who’s the eponymous poet of the establishment?
I made the inn with the hope that my father would come and hang out on the porch, and he did.
We’d like to talk with your dad. What’s he drinking? We’ll give him a mug
A wheat beer with a little bit of stank, some bite.
Would he mind if we go talk with him?
He’s just watching the world go by, not standing, he can see the river, “the lazy man’s parade” I can come out and Elowyn. There’s a little bit of grandeur involved with someone like him.
| We talk about council mechanics. 1. Set our interaction goals and decide who is our spokesperson, 2. Introduction phase, then 3. interaction phase. | What are our goals? | 1. Establish that this Is a safe haven | 1. Is he a patron that we could get on our side? Would he be willing to help long term? | As a group, we have 5 fellowship points. We can use those to gain advantage on rolls. Because The Abbot is our current patron, we can spend another d20 to contribute reroll. | We spend 1 fellowship point. | We decide to use persuasion for the introduction and have Bal be our spokesperson, since Branwen is still figuring out her place and catching up on who we are and what’s been happening. We want to introduce ourselves, this is who we are, where we come from. Want to find out about him as well. | |||||
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| We bring him a nice MOAT weiss with a lemon. |
We notice that he’s moving his head a little strangely. Holds up his hand as his son puts his beer in his hand. He seems to be blind and hard of hearing.
Bal introduces the party. Each of us approach and introduce ourselves.
Bardh mentions having written an epic.
Are you the titular poet?
My son told me this was his place and he wanted me to come back here, and I did.
You tell me you’re going to find a better place, with the river and orchards. What are you gonna do? You go you, you live your life, and come back, you tell the stories.
He talks about the “stank” on the weiss, how it goes “good” not “bad.” “It’s always high summer in Sibrwd”
As Bal speaks, he lets slip the “black water” That makes Bardh hesitate. | For the Introduction roll, Bal rolls Perception. We get a 9 and a 10 with advantage, then we decide to use the Abbott patron ability, which lets us roll again, which results in a crit (21). Having exceeded the DC by at least 5, we also can reroll up to two failed ability checks during the council interaction. | |---| K: Any good dance moves?
I was a monster on the floor, but not any more.
Your eyesight is maybe not what it once was.
Yes, but if you spend enough time–we humans love seeing things–there are all these other things out there, and not all of them involve eyesight. You can use any of the senses. I sit, and envision, and I’m pretty good at it
Voices on the wind. Do you mean the music?
Yes, the sound poets write the music we hear. To hear what they’re up to, I have the utmost respect.
We’re not from around here, but we don’t know the sound poets. Are they people?
If you follow our river, not the outlet, the other tributary that goes up, off that way and off in the hills and mountains, there’s a conclave that lives with all these standing stones, you listen to the tone, you feel it, the sound that they make, the sound the wind makes, they are writing the sound. I’ve written the words, so have you, I don’t know what it is, they write sound, i can’t do what they do. I have to respect it. And what comes here to where we are, it’s the mist in the morning rising up, the birds rising up. This is where I wanted to spend my retirement. I’m so thankful.
How long have you been here?
A while ago now
What sorts of travel have you done? Can you regale us?
Surely you’ve heard of my stories. I’ve met the red blade, I’ve wrote his story. A good bloke, took a while to get down his story. His pacing was totally off. I’m sure you’ve read that, you’ve heard the story of the ridiculousness of the great black beast that came over the mountains.
Of course we know those stories! You wrote them?
Of course! That was ll me?
What’s your surname?
Surname?? I am THE BARDH.
How many blind poets do you know???
You met the red blade…
Yes, he was a pain in the ass. To distill what he was saying down to what folks would be interested in, my god
What can you tell us about him? We don’t know that much.
He was awfully full of himself.
You write all these tales. What are your inspirations?
I think I see things and I want to try and repeat them truthfully. What people misunderstand is that I don’t necessarily write what I saw, but I try to write the thing to let you see what I saw. Something that evokes the image for the reader.
If you’re willing to read the written word, that’s something special. You’re (Bal) you’re a reader.
Bal shows him the illuminated manuscript, and how it includes his stories. “Care was taken by monks to record his words, his rhythm and prose.” B hands him the book.
Krambler asks if he’s ever seen something like his hammer. He reaches out. “I’m not sure what this means” he does not break out into hammer time.
Bal asks about staying in town for a while. Is this a safe haven of sorts?
I admit that I’ve had a lovely town with you and admit that I have some clout. Funny that you call it a town. It’s not that big.
| Bal rolls a persuasion check. (13) We use one option to reroll. (7) We reroll again (6). Since our points refill during a fellowship phase (see note below), our DM kindly let us retroactively spend fellowship points to roll with advantage. Now the party has 2 fellowship points. |
|---|
- We succeed at our first goal**, within the inn we should be safe while we’re here, because his son is the proprietor. If you want to spend a couple days, you should be able to have his protection. And because he is rather high on himself and impressed with his abilities, he has the chops to back up what he’s saying.
Bal: So appreciated.
Does he know anyone else in town we should speak with? Any other points of interest?
<
| We can take a long rest. We’ll talk more this week about what people’s goals are and making this fellowship phase happen between now and next week. What we all want to do under Bardh’s auspices. We could also continue talking to him, before or after having completed our undertakings. | In a fellowship phase, you refill points up to the number of people in the fellowship., and can potentially get more based on the patron. The Abbot gave us a bonus. Other patrons may have other point bonuses. |
