- We Super Casually Join the Group And Don’t Freak Anyone Out at All Balz and Branwen had a stargazing experience where a manta ray swam across the night sky after Bran touched The Cradle. It was a figure of 7 stars that formed that ray.
We find ourselves at the weaving terrace, with people and beehive huts.
The party seems interested in joining in with the weaving and the singing. Debate over long/short rest etc, but we are waiting on that for moment.
Balz asks Canstal if we can hang out a bit. He says it’s cool.
Branwen sits and reaches for spare rushes, and tentatively asks if she could help out.
A man and a woman offer to show her some pointers. Branwen starts weaving, rolls a 5, and gets some condescending “youll get there honey” comments, but Branwen fiercely perseveres.
Storr walks over to some huts. She is looking for a reverence for bees, like the bear village. Is the a “Bee village”? They seem like bees in hives, nothing extraordinary.
Krambler also joins in the weaving. Grabs a seat next to woman who helped Br. She helps K. He rolls a 4. No one is impressed.
Branwen cracks about how we can only get better at this. Says to the woman, we are practiced at smiting evil. She says, This is a good place to not have to spite evil…
This island is great to smell the ocean, listen to the wind and concentrate on other things.
Balz stands apart from the group and wants to hum to the wind. (rolls old lore at 21..) he’s able to feel out some melodies and harmonies, and contributes to the sound. The woman who is skeptical of B and K’s weaving, and eyes another woman, seems to approve, and pats Branwen on the knee.
[some discussion about the cradle - the 3 lobed symbol we keep seeing. Silas recalls “playing cradle”. A bit of a manuever of a game. The girls also played this at the tower.
Bran asks what the cradle symbol means to her. She doesn’t know the full meaning but it brings her peace. THat spot is more meditative than other, feel connected to the ground air and ocean. Connected to the natural world. To get away from people.
Balz posits this place is connected to the sea, given the manta ray constellation.
Storr asks about “gettign away from people” who are you getting away from? Reply: lived in a bustling port, left to the islands in the west. A long time ago.
S: Do you have any children here? Response, there are younger folks here. No babies.
Balz: is there a name for the manta ray constellation. Reply: yes, hold on….The Great Ray. Moredhen. More-Evan.
Storr asks about the story of Gwedhen. Response, not really. Sounds like a familiar fairy tale.
Brawn asks the name of the port city, no one knows this city - unfamiliar.
Storr - what’s the baskets for, precious? Sometimes the weather takes them, they float away in the ocean.
Storr - what else besides weaving? Some normal daily tasks, gotta live.
Storr - you know Sun King? Nope
Branwen - Torval, Ceridwen, Mons? Not the names, but the figures. God King, inventor of the wheel, sure. Ceridwen - names of things - that’s what we listen to and capture in our weaving. A wordless weaving.
Bran likes this line of thought - the voices, capturing the wind. ANotes that her fingers are clumsy, her mind worn from travel, but she’s very interested in the craft. Might we stay with you an extended amount of time to recover, and learn their craft.
Kanstal says “we should talk at elevensies.”
Silas finds the most awkward member of the weaving circle. A dark haired boy, humming to himself. Darting eyes. Big eyed stare when Silas and Bear sit down.
S: “It’s rough out there, huh?” (Persuasion 2)
No response.
S: Looks to the next guy - what’s with this kid? (20-something, blond, lithe, willowy)
Isolde: Willow doesn’t really speak.
S: Ohm not me, then?
Isolde: right…
Silas: I’m silas, this arthen, he’s a bear. I’m also a bear.
Isolde: Questioning look at Branwen, who shrugs.
Silas: wanna talk about stars? (asking about the great bear and the lesser bear and the dragon curling between them.)
Isolde: Nope. No dragon, bears or whatever.
Silas. Great bear?
Isolde: heard of a great bear who lives in the forest, but not more than that. Not this island.
Storr: (to the weaving woman we were talking to. Morewhena spelling incorrect) asks about the other island with combustables.
Morwhena: that’s the raven nest. (Not A raven. The raven.)
Storr: Friendly?
M: not tried to eat us. This is a ROUS.
Some chatter about who talks to birds. No one owns up to it.
Storr: when does the raven come back?
M: comes and goes. raise s chicks in nest, etc. it’s own creature.
The ladies to the potty, grabbing 2 rushes for wipsies.
Storr asks if B wants to go to Raven Island. B says YES.
Ladies come back. Storr intends to scout it out from this main island.
No other land in sight.
Elevensies? Break in singing, get up. Folks bring out bread, cheese and honey. A kettle of a hot herbal liquid. They offer it to us.
A man is smoking a long pipe. Silas joins the man and ask for some pipeweed. The guy has a woolen bag head. He looks at sila’s helmet, and shares the pipeweed. His name is Ives (pronounced eaves).
We council. We debate who should be the spokesperson, since Bran has disadvantage on ability checks from exhaustion.
We’re asking them to stay for a while and learn the skill of weaving the wind into baskets and also learning to sing on the wind. It seems consequential and we’d like to help. Also inquire what they do at the peak. We;d be happy to aid in weaving baskets, defend their island, information trade, read manuscript stories.
- We Council and are Granted Shelter Bran is spokesperson, and we use a point. (down to 5?)
Bran introduces the party. We;re interested in participating in their craft, and talking about the wind and or experiences hearing songs on the wind.
Bran rolls 10, twice, we expend a total of 2 fellowship points. [OOPS]
We’ve heard the songs of the world and haven’t been able to comprehend or capture them. You seem to be doing that. They work with the natural word. We’d love to be a part of the communing and the concentration they have with the nature worlds.
They offer Balz the opportunity to speak on our behalf because he seems to be taking what we’re talking about seriously. Balz rolls a success.
Canstal says, if you would like to stay and take a long rest (5ish days) and stay with us and heal up. He looks around and everyone agrees.
We should each pick a long rest activity, based on what we’ve been talking about here. Figuring out how to weave, how to listen to voices, etc. This is also a good opportunity to look through the magical item inventory and pull one of those out and focus on that.
Storr turns to her blanket.
Bran is interested in taking the wind and turning it into an object. Taking the wind and crafting something it.
Silas is going to think on it.
Balz is going to try to meditate with the voices, with the poets quill with the blank pages of the manuscript, with the hope that after a time a message or lyrics might come as in an automatic writing sort of thing.
Balz to Storr: The work is the point. What if you used the voices on the wind to teach yourself to make a blanket?
Storr: But I’ve been carrying this around. Seems like an opportunity to really figure this thing out.
They show us to a bee hive hut. This is some space for us to rest in. They apologize that there aren’t a ton of space. There’s a couple of stone shelves they sleep on with woolen blankets and pads. Silas and Arthen will sleep outside. They go off and do their individual things which is their way, and head off into the island (gardening, music, bee keeping and golden liquor that includes the heath and the heather of the island, herding goats and gathering wool on the south eastern part of the island, re: the quill, one of them talks about being a weaver of words. Various types of weaving happening.)
Next week we’ll start right here, with no time passing, so we have an opportunity to change up our activity if we like.
