The Haunted Tower

1. First Floor There are five statues, assumed to be the Children of Mons.

   1. Upper Stories We find books and journals that contain excerpts of poetry.

It also looks like a “beast” destroyed much of the upper stories.

There’s a poem written on the wall that we interpret as a puzzle, solving it by writing “The Foundling” at the end, which gives us access to the upper level.

1. The Top, Hidden Level We find an enclosed space with a carved bowl of water, from which a shadow emerges, which we fight.

The shadow possesses Silas, and Cricket, while wearing his cloak

In the bowl, we find a golden quill.

Other Details: Details from the bear village people (10/16/23 log entry):> At night there’s a shadow from long ago, must beware at night to protect from said darkness…striving to be watchful more than anything else. They are fearful at night, the Night King of Darkness, “King of the Moon,” brought great destruction and evil…they keep a closer watch at night - flowed down out of the North and into the East…Silas asks about the origins, they say there’s an old Tower - but they feel that the evil’s origin is the Black Lake to the North, the source of The Black Water.  Describes 20 miles to the north there’s another hill rising up, this is the center of their community, where a holy grove of sorts exists. Further to the north, way further, perhaps 40 miles is the “haunted tower.” The black water flows down the stream coming from the north. There appears to be a gap in the mountains about 50 miles from here, from whence the river flows…More detail (most paraphrased):> The Tower is related to the darkness that comes at night.  It was used in some capacity that was overstepping the bounds of nature… in a bad way.  They drove too deep and greedily.  Offensive to nature - like science gone too far… they were so concerned with whether they could they never stopped to think about whether they should!  Lot’s of bad ju-ju.  It’s not inherently evil but used for those purposes.Notably, Carantock, our guide from the bear village, will not approach the tower.
