The chess pieces were created for the wealthy and remind Silas of his father’s work. Couldn’t say that he specifically created them but they are made in that tradition, recognizable as from the same people that Silas’ father would be making them for. Reserved for people of high status (not us), Silas would have always felt that they were something he had access to but were beyond his pay grade. The board is simple wood that’s painted. White pieces made from walrus tusk, dark pieces (red) are dyed tusks.

  1. Description from the DM

Bottom left: a charcoal black king surrounded by crimson pawns, with a … is it white (?) king. Is it charcoal? Is it bleached tusk?

Top Left: A bleached queen and a charcoal queen, seemingly protected by a … charcoal horse? Or is it bleached?

Top Right: a small bleached queen surrounded by a charcoal knight and bishop, as well as a crimson bishop.

Bottom Left: a mixture of charcoal and bleached pieces as shown.

  1. Party speculation
  • Mike R:* My instinct is that BL, TL, and TR represent our three choices in some way, and BR is our party deliberating over which choice to make

  • Ryan P:* Ooo i like that. If we follow that logic, then that informs who is who pretty well, and allows us to determine what players are involved in each choice.

  • Mike Hopps:* I vote Bottom Left is under the lake / where The Boatman would take us. The 3 crimson pawns surrounding a charcoal king

  • Tom:* I’m wondering if there’s relation between the colors and their relation to bronze.
